Calimere game reserve

In the south-east of Thanjavur, opposite the straits separating India from Sri Lanka, the Calimere natural reserve (Kodikkarai) is widely-known for its water birds. From November to January, thousands of herons, flamengos, gulls and terns flood the mashy area.
