Move up the Goubert Avenue by the seaside that runs in front of Gandhi Square and the old lighthouse. Observe the statues of Gandhi and Joan of Arc, before going for a stroll in the bustling public garden or Government Square in the town centre. To the south, take in the smell of the exotic plants of the peaceful botanic garden. Beware of the highly dangerous beach, except around the Pondicherry Ashok hotel, 7.5 miles away from the town centre and Serenity Beach, a fishermen's beach close to Auroville.
