37 miles northwest of Tiruvanantapuram on the coast, the Janardana Swami Temple still attracts Vishnou believers in a setting filled with hot water cascades pouring from red sandstone cliffs, and wild beaches scattered with coconut trees. This is not the only temple though; visit the Sabarimala Temple near Kottayam, one of the cradles of Hindu pilgrimage; and in the surrounding area, in Ettumanur, go to the temple dedicated to Shiva which is worth seeing for its gorgeous wall paintings and wooden sculptures. Near Trichur, discover the Guruvayur Hindu Temple, a popular pilgrimage spot, together with the Triprayar circular temple which is set on teak wooden structures, with a conical copper plate roof.
