 Climate and Seasons

There are three main seasons in India: winter, summer and the monsoon season.
In the Himalayan regions, in winter (dry season), from November to March, the air is clean and mountains are very visible but temperatures are freezing. In Ladakh, temperatures drop to - 30 °C, in winter in the Pang-Gong Tso area. In Kashmir, they sometimes drop to -10 °C, from December to February. Spring and autumn sometimes have temperatures around 10 -15 °C, but no less than 7 °C.
In summer, from March to May, the heat is scorching. The best time to go to the North, in the Kashmir region and in the Himalayan mountain resorts is from April to August. In the Ladakh region, early June is a good time to go hiking because the thaw enables the opening of mountain passes. In the Nubra valley, average temperatures are around 15 to 30°C. In Kashmir, they vary between 25 and 35°C from June to October and are colder in the stations in altitude.
The monsoon arrives in India from the west towards the end of May until the end of September (in the West) and end of October (in the East). The rains are heavy, the temperature drops low and the humidity rate is extremely high. You will have difficulty travelling around: Flights are cancelled while roads and railways are blocked. The cool season, around October, indicates the end of the monsoon period, a pleasant period that gives birth to a verdant and luxurious landscape with nice temperatures.
