There are three main seasons in India: winter, summer and the rain season.
The winter, from November to March, is the best season to go to Kerala. Temperatures vary on average between 25 and 30°C, and it's about 15°C at night.
In the summer, from March to late May, the heat becomes overwhelming and around the end of May/beginning of June, the first signs of the rainy season are the high humidity and the short and violent thunderstorms. The western Ghats remain tempered by a cool climate.
As for the rainy season, it lasts until the end of September and the temperatures drop dramatically. Generally speaking, avoid this season because you will have trouble moving around as flights are sometimes cancelled and roads and railway lines are cut off. Between October and November, a second rain season brings rainfall from the northeast which falls during thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon and at night.
