  • The Former Royal Palace in Leh, India

The small town of Leh is located at the bottom of a small valley, right in the north of the Indus valley. Find, in Lechen Palkhar 's nine-story palace (Leh palace), the source of inspiration of the famous Potala, in Lhassa, Tibet. This residence that once belonged to Ladakhi's royal family is falling into ruins due to a lack of maintenance. Just above it, go up a steep trail to reach Victory Fort dating back to the 16th century and admire, from Namgyal Hill top, the view of the city and its surroundings. Below, stroll in the Old Town's labyrinth of streets, marked out with chorten (Tibetan-style stupa) and mani walls (where mantras are engraved ). South of the city, each week during summer time, you can attend sport events on the polo field. On Main Bazaar Rd, find many shops and restaurants around Lal Chowk small red square, in front of the old mosque. Go inside Namgyal Tsemo's red gompa, built in 1430, to observe a huge seated buddha, frescoes and ancient manuscripts.
