Madurai remains an active centre of Tamil culture. The 17th century temple of Minakshi (Sundareshvara) dedicated to Shiva is one of the most visited monuments in India. Admire the gopurams, filled with polychromic sculptures overloking the city. Wander in its maze of galleries, halls and sanctuaries. Every evening around 8:30 PM, sacred music concerts and religious rituals of the Teppam feast from January to February, attract thousands of tourists from all corners of India.
