In the Taj neighbourhood, cross the Gateway of India, an Indo-Muslim style arc de triomphe of Gujarat. Enter the Taj Mahal hotel, one of the most luxurious Indian hotels, with its impressive Victorian façade. Take in a view of the seafront of Apollo Bunder and on the last floor, the view of the port.
At the southern tip of the Colaba Causeway, the Saint John church also known as the Afghan church contains commemorative plates and stained-glass windows.
In the Fort neighbourhood, roam around Horniman Circle, a group of buildings erected by the British in the 19th Century. Next to Horniman Circle, the Saint Thomas cathedral, the first Anglican church in Bombay, houses several marble memorials in its nave.
In the town centre, discover via the Mahatma Gandhi road, the University of Bombay, identifiable by its 262 ft Rajabai Tower and splendid library.
Also observe the statues symbolising justice and indulgence at the Supreme Court (High Court).
Be amazed by the Victoria Terminus station, known as VT station and rename CST, a strange mix of Gothic and Moghul styles with sculptures of peacocks, monkeys, elephants and other gargoyles, domes and arrows.
On the road to Malabar Hill visit the Jain Temple dedicated to Adinath at the start of the 20th Century and walk close to the Towers of Silence. These towers that are closed to the public were built by the Parsis to feed their dead to vultures and crows. To the south lies the Walkeshwar temple, the lord of the sands, and below, the Banganga Tank, place of toilets and prayers, surounded by ghats. Close to the hanging gardens the Babulnath temple is the oldest in the city and is very often visited. Further to the north, you can see the popular Mahalakshmi temple that is highly-animated on festival days.
Slightly higher up, the tomb of the Muslim saint, Haji Ali, is only accessible at low tide.
