In between the border with Kerala and Tamil Nadu, nestled in the Western Ghats, Periyar National Park is great for a safari tour in a Jeep, or even more exotic, a safari on elephant back. The best time to come is between December and May, particularly if you want to see buffaloes, elephants, flying squirrels, bird clouds and, if you are lucky, tigers. The mild and tempered climate is ideal for plantations of spices, teak and hevea trees, as well as tea and coffee plantations. In the heart of the reserve, you will find a lake on which you can sail and which possesses a beautiful ornithological reserve. Do not forget your binoculars!
