Sariska Tiger Reserve, Rajasthan In India, the tiger is a symbol of religious and divine power. Rudyard Kipling's 'The Jungle Book' was inspired by the region in which the Sariska Reserve is located. Martin Siepmann/ age fotostock
The Sariska park, in the north-east of Jaipur, is one of the two Rajasthan's tiger parks. The Jeep is ideal to discover these animals, and you will meet antelopes, deers, wild boars and at times the tigers of the park. It was these wooded valleys and ruins of temples invaded by liana that Kipling described in the "Book of the Jungle". The State-owned second tiger park, close to Sawai Madhopur in the south-east of Jaipur hosts crocodiles, gazelles, seabirds, in a superb and steep landscape overrun by a virgin forest, with former hunting lodges lost in the vegetation. Generally go there between February and June to admire the wildlife. The period between April and May, before the monsoon, remains the most suitable to see tigers and other animals gathered around the scarce water points. (be ready to withstand the stifling heat). Sunset and nightfall are best to take the animals by surprise.
