Using a miniature train, ride to Udhagamandalam (Ootacamund or Ooty) from Mettupalayam. This mountain resort at the borders with Kerala lies in the heart of forests of eucalyptus, coffee and tea plantations. This territory remains the habitat of endangered indigenous tribes like the Toda. The city equally hosts the Lawrence Public School, that educates the Indian elite. Go up to Mount Dobabetta at 8,649 feet, on the crest of the Nilgiri mountains and admire the superb panorama of the region.
