Overview

Bali Indonesia

Located on turquoise waters, Bali is a garden of Eden bordered by beaches with fine sand and is equipped with a very luxurious hotel industry. At the heart of the Indonesian archipelago in the Indian Ocean, this paradisiacal island can easily be considered as a destination in itself. Captivating, Bali enchants the senses. The rice fields on terraces leaning against the chains of volcanoes and the luxurious vegetation offer unusually beautiful scenery. The "island of the Gods" so marked by Hinduism and ancestral beliefs, has an inestimable cultural heritage to which its temples, traditional villages, and numerous festivities, bear manifest witness.

pros

  •  With tropical charm and seaside enjoyment, Bali has a first-rate hotel industry and a good climate for most of the year.
  •  Bali has an authentic and deep local culture that is worth discovering.

cons

  •  The country admits a great deal of western tourists who can discourage travellers searching for a real change of scene.
  •  The prices tend to rise each year without any real justification.

Our Editorial team's advice

The whole of the southern part of the island constitutes the main seaside place in Bali. The most beautiful beaches are here, and also the largest concentration of western holidaymakers. Try to avoid Kuta Beach on the western side, as it has become a real tourist factory, and go back to Sanur, in the east, or Nusa Dua, which is more luxurious and located on the Bukit peninsula, in the south.
Do not miss Ubud in the interior of the land, or an excursion into its surroundings. Even if this town is very frequented by tourists today, it represents one of the most active sources of Balinese culture, and conserves a very attractive charm.
The island is not just made up of its superb beaches. Bali is also defined by a magnificent and generous nature, which it would be a real shame to ignore. And as for natural beauty, the region of the impressive volcano Gunung Agung, in the east of the island, is unmissable.
