Indonesian dishes are very often made of rice, eaten with vegetables, meat, eggs and soup. One of the most renowned combinations is the popular nasi goreng, fried rice with vegetables, sometimes served with chicken or beef. There are spices galore (but the pepper heat level is bearable), while coconuts and sugar are sometimes added. Take advantage of your stay to treat yourself to the tropical fruits
: bananas, pineapples, mangoes, mangosteens, rambutans, jackfruits, or for the more foolhardy, the highly "perfumed" durian... As for drinks, beer is widely consumed and Indonesia produces excellent coffee. Alongside these "classics", you can also discover local specialties, such as the pa'piong of the Torajas (vegetables served with pork, chicken or fish, cooked for hours on in a bamboo stalk). At North Sulawesi, you can treat yourself to several dishes made of buffalo meat, or the renowned cuisine of the Minahasas. This may even be an opportunity to taste unexpected dishes, such as bat, dog meat or goldfish...
