In the south-east of the country, in the Fars province, the Zagros Mountains rise in tight folds up to an altitude of 9,840 ft. Wheat, tobacco, cotton and barley are grown and animals bred in the basins of the valley. Beyond 6,560 ft, oak groves change into a forest of junipers.
