Souvenirs and handcraft Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories

You can buy crafts drawing their inspiration from Jewish tradition like the mezuzah (small silver, metal or wooden boxes containing a rolled parchment on which is written two excerpts of Deuteronomy. They are placed on the doors of all Israeli homes, except on the doors of shower rooms), and also monorahs (jewels, silverware), diamonds (Israel is one of the world's leading diamond cutting centres) and leather. The prices are attractive since taxes are lower than in Europe and if you pay in foreign currency, shops accredited by the Ministry of Tourism give you an immediate rebate of 5% and a tax refund for purchases of more than 36 pounds sterling (the VAT will be refunded at the airport on presentation of a receipt).
In the Arab souks of the Old City of Jerusalem, you will find Palestinian embroidery, copperware and spices... Shops are open Sunday to Thursday from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm, and every Friday morning. Saturday is a day of rest for the Jews (Sabbath). On this day, all businesses are closed, except in the big cities and major tourist sites. Muslim and Christian shops have the same hours but close on Friday (weekly day of rest) and Sunday respectively.
