The Dead Sea

The Dead Sea The Dead Sea, Israel The salt concentration in the Dead Sea is so high that you float even when you stay completely still. © Ariel Fuchs

Bathing in the Dead Sea is an experience which is not to be missed. Its extreme salinity, the highest in the world (30% of salt compared to 4% in normal sea water) allows you to float without having to make the slightest movement. Be careful though, do not put your head into the water and rinse yourself well afterwards (go to a beach with showers)! The cliffs jutting out over the Dead Sea host the Ein Guedi Nature Reserve; on the slopes of the Judaea Desert, wadies have sculpted breathtaking gorges. Hiking footpaths wind through waterfalls, streams, caves, arid plateaus and reed jungles; as the tradition goes, it is in the latter that David, chased by Saul, sought refuge.
