Rift Valley, Israel This depression extending from Syria to Africa borders the western part of Israel and incorporates the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth. © Ariel Fuchs
The long fracture of the rift valley, the longest valley in the world, opens in the eastern part of the country. This Syro-African depression borders the Red Sea in the south, the Araba Desert (between the Negev and the Jordanian Mountains) and the Dead Sea, which is the lowest point of the planet, followed by the Jordan Valley, Lake Tiberias and the Hula Valley, at the foot of the Golan mountains.
