As in the rest of the island, the expresso taken at the counter marks the days of the Sicilians. If you sit in the hall or open air, be ready to pay 50% more for a thimble of strong coffee, always offered with a glass of water and sometimes chocolate. If you do not relish espressos you could go for 'long coffee' ('lungo' or 'americano'), espresso with milk ('macchiato'), a grand cream ('caffè con latte') or a cappuccino. Also bear in mind that in beer parlours, which sell pastry and sweets, you should pay at the counter and show your ticket to be served.
