Catania's cathedral is worth seeing, as well as the Piazza del Duomo with its Elephant fountain and the Greco-roman theatre. An exciting, and even bustling city, the first city of Sicily stretches up to the south of Etna. Built on the lava flow of the turbulent volcano, it dates back to the 8th century BC. The tourist sites lie on both sides of the Viale Vittorio Emanuele II. Moving up this vast course from east to west, the visitor delves into Catania's past, from the antique ruins to the Baroque churches and palaces. From there, one can go and laze about in the Bellini garden, which offers a stunning vista of the dominant entity of the region: Etna.
