Lombardy Province should be a choice destination for its lakes, amongst which the most renowned are Lake Maggiore, Lake Como and Lake Garda. Stop over at Stresa, on the west bank of Lake Maggiore, to visit the lovely Belle Epoque villas: the villa Pallavicino and villa Ducale are surrounded by immaculate gardens. Also take a look at the Borromean Islands; the former holiday resorts for monarchs, Isola Bella and Isola Madre have palaces surrounded by splendid parks. Much simpler, the Fishermen's Island returns to the Italian traditional villages with their red roofing tiles; here, you readily feel like discovering the authentic surroundings.
