Lake Trasimeno

Lake Trasimeno Lake Trasimeno With a surface area of nearly 50 miČ, Lake Trasimeno, or Lake of Perugia, is the fourth largest lake in Italy. It has three islands: Polvese, Maggiore, and Minore. Martin Siepmann/ age fotostock

The fourth largest lake in Italy, Lake Trasimeno is an expanse of water that stretches over 80 miČ in the province of Perugia. Hills covered with olive trees surround this mirror of water; which was formed by tectonic movements and is only 6m deep. The peace and quiet of the place can be felt around the whole lake, from Tuoro sul Trasimeno to Castiglione del Lago, and on the islands of Isola Polvese, with its holm oaks and cypress trees, and Isola Maggiore, the only island still inhabited by a small community of a few dozen people. The ferry service stops at Passignano and San Feliciano.
