Monuments of Milan

Castello Sforzesco is the former residence of the dukes of Milan. Built in the 15th century, it is made up of several inner courts adorned with arcades and Renaissance sculptures. The Scala theatre, located at Piazza della Scala, is notable for its neoclassical façade and lavish interior. Also make a trip to the cathedral, the Duomo, which is the epitome of flamboyant Gothic art (see photo). Its spectacular dimensions (each of the 5 naves can hold up to 4,000 people) make it the most outstanding monument in town. Take a good look at the immense stained glass windows embellishing the side aisles, then visit the marble tomb of Giacomo de Médicis, located in the right transept.
