In Sicily, people like to eat and a meal takes at least two hours, from antipasti to desert. Generally, starters include an assortment of artichokes, tomatoes and marinated anchovies. This is followed by pasta with cuttlefish oil and lemon. Then comes the main course, a meat (such as rabbit or lamb) or fish (tuna or sardine), cooked with various vegetables and herbs (celery, olives, tomatoes). As for cheese, Sicily produces a broad range, including the pecorino (from sheep milk) and the provola (from cow milk). For dessert, you cannot resist a cream cone or a portion of cassata, cake filled with whipped ricotta cheese with mixed fruits.
