In three leaps, Marmore's Falls, Europe's highest, gush violently down a 162m course. Artificially created in 271 AD, at the wish of the Roman consul Curius Dentatus, they are formed by the waters of the Velino river, which plunge into the Nera. There are a number of paths that can be followed along footpaths and mule tracks, enabling the visitor to explore this aquatic sight and the surrounding area. The waterfalls are part of the Parco Fluviale del Nera, an area where a number of sporting activities can be enjoyed, including rafting, rock climbing, mountain biking, and trekking. For each of these sports, the routes and activities are supervised by specialist guides.
