The most attractive site of Vulcano is, needless to say, its volcano. To come close to the big crater, you need to take the via Provincial from the jetty. The footpath is smooth, but you must be careful not to inhale a lot of the sulphuric vapours discharged by the volcano. Absolutely resist sitting down for a break, for it is close to the floor that the vapour accumulates. It takes one hour to get to the side of the crater: climb up in the morning or at the end of the afternoon to enjoy the best lighting and so as not to suffer too much from the heat.
