Jamaica, the paradise of ornithologists, is home to not less than 240 bird species: egrets, pelicans, mockingbird, owls or patoos, parrots, and hummingbirds, such as the black-headed hummingbird. Some species are endemic, such as the Jamaican blackbird, which is threatened with extinction, or the John crow, a type of vulture.
