Fish, poultry, rice, vegetables, fruits and spices are the staple foods of Jamaican cuisine. Discover specialties, such as "ackee'n saltfish", the national dish made of crumbled cod-fish mixed with vegetables and eaten with ackee, a red fruit with yellow flesh that should be eaten very ripe to avoid food poisoning.
Jamaicans relish meat that is spicy, marinated and cooked on a barbecue, such as the "jerk-pork" or "jerk-chicken". You can also try the "goat curry" accompanied with a pineapple and mango sauce (chutney). For dessert, we will recommend "bammies", small cassava cakes and "Johnny cakes". For drinks, you can choose among the various punches, fruit juice, local beer such as Red Stripe, and drinks widely considered as aphrodisiacs: the irish Moss made of algae extracts and ganja tea (made of Jamaican marijuana). Don't miss the Blue Mountain coffee, an absolute delight.
