The capital of the island, Kingston is a bustling city, bursting with intense activity. It is both an administrative and cultural centre and deserves a day's stopover. The Devon House is one of those unavoidable monuments. Built by a millionnaire, this stunning home is the quintessence of 19th century colonial architecture. The Kingston Parish Church whose clock tower is one of the symbols of the town, and St Andrews Parish Church, considered to be the oldest church in Jamaica, are also worth a visit. Bob Marley fans can stop over at the Bob Marley Museum, and nature lovers can visit the botanic garden and its zoo lying close to the splendid residence of the Prime Minister, the Vale Royal, built in the 17th century.
