Port Antonio (Long Bay), Jamaica

Port Antonio is a historic town, which has undergone the Spanish colonization and indeed possesses an extremely typical architecture. From Port Antonio to Long Bay, you can discover the wonders of Jamaica, wild, full of life and witching Jamaica !!! We have visited only one hotel in this region, but it is really well located and very pleasant. Its owners are very nice Frenchmen, and will welcome you with great hospitality and care. They will do their best to guarantee you a stay of high quality, both in their hotel and outside, since their son Romain will offer you to take you on a tour of the island in its most remote parts. Feel free to look for all excursions in the region described below. Enjoy you trip !

Visit Port Antonio (Long Bay)

  • To see

    - Blue Lagoon, the lagoon used in a scene of the film of the same name with Brooke Shields, - the Reach falls, the famous waterfall in the film Cocktail with Tom Cruise, - Winnifred Beach, a beautiful white sand beach with turquoise waters and coral reefs, attended exclusively by Jamaicans and used in the film "Club paradise", - Long Bay, the long beautiful beach, dotted with a few bars, which shows the ocean in its length and its movement, - the beach of Boston, famous among surfers, - the famous Frenchman's Cove beach

    To do

Scuba diving, sports, riding, golf, fishing, cruises and boat rides will delight you ...

    To think about

Jamaicans are very nice despite their reputation of being aggressive. Do not worry, they will be the first to give you directions... And you'll need it because the signs are very bad indicated !!! (The roads are not as dangerous as it is claimed, these are roads in the countryside.) Get a detailed map of Jamaica upon arrival at the hotel (some have maps) or from your tour operator or at the reception. And if possible, take a guide : in this way you will be sure to visit the island in peace.
  • To avoid

Don't think that by going to Jamaica, you can buy and smoke cannabis in peace. You could be wrong ! The country is very strict about that and it is forbidden to smoke or possess cannabis. The police won't forgive it and especially to tourists ! Policemen will make you spend several hours or even days in prison ! So, beware! ... Even if it is sold freely at the Bob Marley Museum ! Avoid also parking just anywhere, pay close attention to signs. If you have parked wrongly, sheriffs do not hesitate to give you a fine and put a shoe on your tire until you pay. You cannot negotiate ... They are intransigent !

    To try

Exotic fruits such as pineapple, banana, papaya, coconut... but also vegetables such as ackee, the national vegetable, fruit of the akesia; breadfruit, the fruit of the breadfruit; spices ... The specialities will satisfy you, like jerk pork or chicken, often served with fries. Some other national gourmet dishes : the pepperpot (an arawak dish, a meat stew cooked with collaloo, a local species of spinach sprinkled with pepper and grated coconut), escovitched fish (fresh fish cooked in sauce with onions, vinegar, red pepper ....), gizzadas (small coconut pies scented with ginger) ... It would be a shame not to try the famous coffee of the Blue Mountains, known as the best coffee in the world !

    To bring back

A country of Rastas and the mythical place of reggae, marked by music and the memory of the unforgettable Bob Marley, Jamaica will give you what you expect. You will find the atmosphere and the warmth you dream of, from colourful homes to the music, and the famous "yo man, no problem" ... Apart from your memories, you can bring home CDs, T-shirts with Bob Marley printed on, and rasta hats ... Do not forget to visit the coffee of the Blue Mountains.

    02/11/2011 :
    Jamaica Restaurant Week, 11th-19th November

Many of us head to Jamaica on package holidays at large resort complexes where most, if not all, our meals are included in the price of the accommodation. This being the case, we rarely get the opportunity to sample the real flavours of the island at its numerous restaurants. Well this week and next is the perfect opportunity to put that right with the seventh annual Jamaica Restaurant Week. Similar
