Travel to Trelawny

Trelawny, Jamaica

An hour away east of Montego Bay, Trelawny is a place to stay when you want to discover the coasts of Jamaica, from Montego Bay up to Port Antonio or the interior of Jamaica, to Christiana. Beaches, sports activities, evening entertainment and various excursions, including one to the famous Y's Falls will spice up your stay.
The two hotels we visited in Trelawny, the Starfish Trelawny and the Grand Lido Braco are large; the first one is dedicated specifically for families, while the second one is better for lovers of "large villages like in Euro Disney".

Visit Trelawny

  • To see

You can walk around in Trelawny ... But do not forget to discover the famous Y's Falls !!!

    To do

Scuba diving, water sports, riding, golf, fishing, cruises and boat rides will delight you ...

    To think about

Jamaicans are very nice despite their reputation of being aggressive. Don't worry, they will be the first to give you directions... And you'll need it because road signs are misleading !! (The roads are not as dangerous as it is claimed, these are roads in the countryside.) Buy a detailed map of Jamaica upon arrival at the hotel (some have maps) or get one from your tour operator or at the reception. And if possible, take a guide: in this way you will be sure to visit the island in peace.
  • To avoid

Don't think that by going to Jamaica you can buy and smoke cannabis in peace. You would be wrong ! The country is very strict about that and it is forbidden to smoke or possess cannabis. The police won't forgive it, and especially to tourists ! Policemen will not hesitate to make you spend several hours or even days in prison ! So, beware ! ... Even though it is sold freely at the Bob Marley Museum ! Avoid parking just anywhere, pay close attention to signs. If you have parked in the wrong place, the sheriffs will give you a fine and a shoe on your tire until you pay. You cannot negotiate ... They are intransigent !

    To try

Exotic fruits such as pineapple, banana, papaya, coconut ... but also vegetables such as ackee, the national vegetable, fruit of the akesia; breadfruit, the fruit of the breadfruit; spices ... The specialities will satisfy you, like jerk pork or jerk chicken, often served with fries. Some other national gourmet dishes : pepperpot (an arawak dish, a meat stew cooked with collaloo, a local species of spinach sprinkled with pepper and grated coconut), escovitched fish (fresh fish cooked in sauce with onions, vinegar, red pepper ....), gizzadas (small coconut pies with ginger) ... It would be a shame not to try the famous coffee of the Blue Mountains, known as the best coffee in the world !

    To bring back

A country of Rastas and the mythical place of reggae, marked by music and the memory of the unforgettable Bob Marley, Jamaica will give you what you expect. You will find the atmosphere and the warmth you dream of, from colourful homes to music, and the famous "yo man, no problem" ... As for souvenirs, you can bring home CDs, T-shirts with Bob Marley printed on them and rasta hats ... Do not forget the coffee of the Blue Mountains.

    Jamaica Restaurant Week, 11th-19th November

Many of us head to Jamaica on package holidays at large resort complexes where most, if not all, our meals are included in the price of the accommodation. This being the case, we rarely get the opportunity to sample the real flavours of the island at its numerous restaurants. Well this week and next is the perfect opportunity to put that right with the seventh annual Jamaica Restaurant Week. Similar
