Known as the hecatomb led by the 1945 atomic bomb, the city of Hiroshima boasts countless monuments in memory of the dead. A rare testimony of the "ancient town", the Genbaku Dome, though three-quarters destroyed, remains intact. This Peace Memorial is the only building left close to where the explosion occurred. It is today listed in Unesco's world heritage.
