The entrance to the ancient Qasr Amra castle This castle, famous for the remains of the hydraulic system that powered the structure, is located in eastern Jordan. P.de Franqueville
Constructed in the early days of Islam by Caliph Walid I (707-715), this "Desert Castle", a Unesco World Heritage Site, is the acme of your tour. At the entrance you will see the remains of the hydraulic system on which one of the norias was mounted. The hearing room and hammam preserved some of the paintings, priceless vestiges that are legendary for the human figures represented in them, something very rare in Islamic art. The frescos on the walls and ceilings are a blend of Hellenic, Christian and Persian art. In all, there are around two hundred and fifty figures and several animals with themes as simple as being in a courtyard, hunting, handicraft and daily life, but also mythology.
