Visit The Dead Sea

  • To see

It is also possible to go on a sports trip to Wadi al Mujib nature reserve, not far from the Dead Sea; or go back to the origins of Christianity with a visit to the sites of Bethany (the place where Jesus was baptised) and Mount Nebo. Why not also visit Madaba's church with its beautiful mosaics and its magnificent map of the Middle East, made entirely of mosaic.

    To do

Here, you can either go for an endless float on the Dead Sea, while reading your newspaper, (you'll love it!) or take a mud bath directly on the beach! You can also relax in some hot springs, not far from the Dead Sea.

    To think about

Remember to bring a newspaper or a book with you so that you can fully enjoy your bathe in the Dead Sea, and make sure that you rinse yourself off afterwaerds.
  • To avoid

Beware not to put your head under the water or even get water on your face, especially in the Dead Sea. If you do, you must immediately rinse your eyes in fresh water. If you have any cuts or scratches on your body, you should avoid swimming in the Dead Sea.

    To try

Enjoy the mezzes of hummus, mutabal, ful medames and baba ghanoush served up with bread and olives. Also, try the lamb or chicken with rice or vegetable stew. At the end of a meal, you will be given a choice of mint tea, flavoured with sage or thyme, or else Turkish coffee flavoured with cardamom.

    To bring back

Take a jar of black mud back with you for your body and skin care (use as a hair or skin mask), as well as sea salt, which you can dilute in your bath at home. What else can you take back home with you? How about a red and white keffiyeh, the colours worn by the desert Bedouins, a rug, a copper or brass coffee-maker, spices, Tahini sesame paste, a hookah pipe and some hookah tobacco to get you started! You will also find good value jewellery here.
