At the foot of the Zailiyskiy Alatau chain, roughly 9 miles from Almaty, 4,920 feet above sea level, skate on the largest artificial ice rink in the world (Medeo ice rink). 1,640 feet upwards, climb to Tchimbulak, one of the skiing sites in Central Asia (the summer period for this activity is November-April).
