Storytelling tradition

Tireless storytellers, Kyrgyz have perpetuated the tradition of words and poetry across centuries. Thus, the Manas epic story is a sort of "Iliad of steppes" telling the exploits of the young warrior Batyr (Manas) who succeeds in saving his country from hordes of invaders. A tradition of epic storytelling, that long remained silent, is being revived; several tv programmes, operas and books revisit this ancient theme.
