Laos has an abundant and varied wildlife. You can find black gibbons and leopards in the mountains, small pandas, macaques, wild elephants, and whiteflag dolphins in the south of Khong island, and black bears in the Luang Prabang region. Some species that disapeared in other parts of Southeast Asia survived in Laos: koupreys, one-horn Javanese rhinoceroses and two-horn Sumatra rhinoceroses. There are also several species reptile throughout the country: cobras, vipers, big black or speckled monitors, geckos and chameleons.
