The Mekong valley is mythical. The country's powerhouse brings vital energy to the people on its banks for rice cultivation. The best way to enjoy the ambiance of these small villages perched on the river's banks is by boat. From there you can admire hills laden with banana plantations, teaks and bamboo, terraced rice fields and woodland. Along the river are the area's most sacred caves: Pak Ou, from which a thousand Buddhas cast a watchful eye over the locals...
