The Laotian capital since 1563, Vientiane (or Vieng Chan) has preserved its charm well. Closed to the modern world for a long time, the most charming capital of Southeast Asia has retained its colonial heritage. You will also find several interesting religious sites in its surroundings. Make sure to visit the That Luang, the country's most sacred Buddhist monument, which was restored at the end of the 20th century by the French school of the Far-East.
