The most splendid landscapes are found east of Riga in the Gauja National Park. You can visit this area, which boasts a number of castles, via hiking trails, on horseback or on foot. There are three nature reserves with bird specialists who are there to guide visitors in the pleasures of bird watching. As for the Gauja valley, with the Gauja river (where you can go canoeing) it is essentially a winter-sports resort.
