In Gauja Valley, Gutmanis Cave, which was named after the healer who, is said to have used its stream water as medication, is well worth a visit. It is covered in three hundred year old cave paintings and it is the site of a tragic legend: the story of beautiful Maija who was killed in the cave by a suitor and Viktor the gardener who was accused of her murder, but who was later acquitted.
