February 2005: Assassination of Rafic Hariri (former Prime Minister) and protests break out against the pro-Syrian regime. Syrian troops ask to withdraw.
March 2005: Resignation of Lebanese Omar Karame from the pro-Syrian government.
7 March 2005: Following a meeting between Lebanese (Emile Lahoud) and Syrian (Bachar Al-Assad) heads of state, Syrian troops are redeployed to Bekaa (14,000 Syrian soldiers were still in Lebanon).
9 March 2005: The pro-Syrian Prime Minister Omar Karame is reappointed by President Lahoud and he forms a new government.
14 March 2005: Syrian troops withdraw from northern Lebanon and the Metn mountains and move towards the plain of Bekaa
13 April 2005: Prime Minister Omar Karame submits his second resignation, which is approved by President Emile Lahoud.
15 April 2005: The new Prime Minister, Mr Najib Mikati, is a former pro-Syrian minister.
26 April 2005: All Syrian troops withdraw from Lebanon.
June 2005: Fouad Siniora is appointed Prime Minister by President Emile Lahoud.
July 2006: The Israeli attack in southern Lebanon to eradicate Hezbollah.
