Airports

The closest airport is that of Zurich (Kloten), 81 miles from Vaduz. It takes 10 to 15 minutes to get to the Zurich town centre
by train, 15 to 20 min by taxi (about CHF 50) and 1h by bus (about CHF 5).
From Zürich, there is a train to Buschs or Sargans (1h05). Here, three buses per hour head for Vaduz in less than thirty minutes (line 1: the cost is CHF 4).
You can rent a car in one of the agencies at the Zurich airport. Take the motorway linking Zurich to Liechtenstein, then take the first exit (Balzers). It takes 1h45 to get to Vaduz.

The currency is the Swiss Franc (CHF). Most credit cards are accepted, and payment by travellers cheque is also widespread. Banks are open from Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 12:00pm and from 2:00pm to 4:30pm.

Local transportation

With the frequent shuttles to all the villages, the bus is the most appropriate means of transport to move around the country. Caution: the service closes early; get the schedule from the Tourism Authority. A weekly multi-use ticket is CHF 10 and a monthly multi-use ticket is CHF 20. A unit ticket is on average CHF 3 (the fare varies per distance). You can rent a car with your national driving licence.

No particular vaccine is required. Vaccinations against tetanus and poliomyelitis are recommended. Like in all high mountain zones, beware of the altitude sickness, of hypothermia and sunburn.
There is only one hospital in Liechtenstein, but the medical equipment is modern and services of good quality. To benefit from emergency medical coverage and to be reimbursed, get some health insurance,the European card from your local social security centre. Once you are there, you must also show proof of identity. Be careful, dental care is not reimbursed and must be paid in full.
