As proven by the many festivals organised throughout the year, Lithuanian culture is particularly influenced by music and song. Dating from the feudal era, traditional songs (dainos) are the oldest folk testimonies. They can be heard during the Vilnius National Song Festival which is held every four years and which brings together thousands of choirs from all over the Baltic. This is undoubtedly one of the country's biggest cultural events, just preceding the Summer Music Festival held in July in the Old Town of Vilnius.
