Coloane Island St. Francis Xavier chapel, tucked away in a quiet little part of the island, is one of the few architectural attractions you'll find here. © Vivianne Riviere
Coloane island was formerly the base of pirates who robbed merchant ships. Today, the island tiny village is still charming with its small church square skirted by the restaurants terraces. There you have the Saint-François Xavier chapel and the small Tam Kong temple. The island is mostly visited on weekends for its sand beaches. They are lapped by the muddy but less polluted water from the Pearl river estuary. The big beach of Hac Sa is the most popular and offers different water activities. The big park of the island, the real breadbasket of Macau, offers wonderful strolling opportunities.
