You cannot go to Diego Suarez without visiting the gorgeous Sugar Loaf, the Montagne des Français or the Bay of Diego. Diego Suarez is a former colonial town, and you will appreciate the town's typical architecture.

You can visit Amber Mountain National Park which allows beautiful walks in the woods in a cool and invigorating climate. You should also go and see Cape Diego, Courrier Bay, the special reserve of Ankarana with its spectacular tsingys and the countless caves and sumptuous rivers.

Do not forget the anti-mosquito lotion and spray yourself first thing in the morning and again in the evening, even if you are wearing long-sleeved clothing, as mosquitoes can bite through it.

Avoid wearing shorts and tee-shirts in the evening if you go for a walk; choose clothing with long sleeves. The cyclone period (late December-early April) is to be avoided.

Try the romazava and ravitoto; the romazava is prepared with brèdes (green leaves), while the ravitoto is a kind of stew made from crushed leaves of cassava and pieces of pork fat. You should also try the fish and shellfish and drink some rum.
