Embroidery Embroidery 'Richelieu' fabrics allow a subdued light to filter through. A.Lorgnier ©

Hand embroidery is very common in Madagascar, and is primarily practiced by women. It is used to decorate or produce clothes and household linen, and the materials used are produced locally. Embroidery depicts animals, bright flowers and scenes from daily life. The "Richelieu" type is very common on the island.
