Although Sainte-Marie offers a few interesting diving scenes, the best place for this pass-time is off the shore of Nosy Be because of its more interesting seabed. In addition to from the numerous tropical fish (snappers, groupers, angelfish, lionfish), it is not rare to find turtles, whale sharks, dolphins and pilot whales. As for remarkable submarine sites, you can visit the seas around Ambatoloaka in the day, especially the small protected resort of Nosy Tanikely, or go for a one- or several-day cruise in the Mitsio islands in the north-west, to the Comoros Islands or to the Radama peninsular towards the south.
