The North and Diego Suarez Antsiranana Bay is perfect. Whether you wish to swim or snorkel, sail or kite surf, it is difficult to find bluer waters or a more sheltered bay. A.Lorgnier ©
On the north coast, Madagascar is mainly renowned for the Diego Suarez bay, today known as Antsiranana, one of the most charming bays in the world, and its famous sugar bread. Splendid and perfectly shaded, the huge Diego Suarez bay had for some time been the haven of sailors from the whole world, especially the French, whose ships dropped anchor while crossing the southern Indian Ocean. None of them has ever forgotten the bay and its magnificent surroundings. To the north of Antsiranana, Cape Amber is the most northern area of the great island, while to the west, Windsor Castle, an impressive rock formation 1,282 ft tall, offers a unique panorama of the area. In the south, the national park of the Amber Mountain attempts to preserve the plant and animal life of the region as well as this ancient volcanic mountain itself.
