The Savannah is located in the west and south of the island as well as on part of the Highlands (the tablelands of the Centre). They are often littered with anthills, tamarind and palm trees, occasionally with impressive baobab trees in the Morondava region (west coast) or are interrupted by strange thorny forests in the grand south (especially in the Isalo Park).
