The south coast Toleara Bay isn't very suitable for bathing. If you're looking for sublime waters, you're better off heading to Ifaty. A.Lorgnier ©
In the south-west, you cannot bathe at Toleara (formerly Tulear) but rather at Ifaty, 19 miles to the north or at Anakao and the surrounding islets. On both sites, deep-sea diving is widely practiced along an immense protected coral reef. In the south-west, Taolagnaro, better known as Fort Dauphin (its old name) has immense, fine sand beaches along lovely bays, such as Manafiaty.
